I took a very deep breath. And a few more. It seemed the thing to do at Cape Grim on the north west coast of Tasmania, which lays claim to the cleanest air on the planet. Scientifically measured by this baseline air pollution station.

When the wind is blowing from the west, it has travelled more than 16,000km across the Antarctic Ocean to reach land again. And when it rains (which is often), the entrepreneurial Cape Grim Water Company bottles it, claiming to be the purest water on the planet - and again its been measured. A work colleague once told me hed seen this water in New York restaurants for more than $20 a bottle. Marketing genius. I have tried the sparkling water and it is lovely. No doubt about it.

We visited Cape Grim during a half day tour of Woolnorth, the large property on the north west tip of Tasmania owned by the Van Diemens Land Company. We saw stretches of green pasture feeding dairy cattle (Cape Grim Beef is now mostly raised elsewhere in Tasmania), historic farm buildings, wedge tailed eagles soaring, large flocks of Cape Barren geese and the 62 turbine wind farm operated by Hydro Tasmania. It was wonderful to get up close to one of these amazing structures providing clean energy to many households. Just an awe-inspiring sight and sound.

Transferring An Image With Freezer Paper

Last month, I was selected to participate on One Month To Win It.  Woohoo!  Our first challenge was to use images from The Graphics Fairy.  I was excited about this because I already had a couple of projects in mind.  I wanted to transfer an image onto a tea towel and searched all over the web for instructions.  I found a variety of ways to do this.  I settled on using freezer paper - because I already had the supplies on hand.  :-)

If you want to see the original tutorial for this method, head over to see Lesa at Home Frosting.  She added an image to her mouse pad - too cute.  Anyway, here is what I did-

I cut a piece of freezer paper roughly the size of a piece of printer paper - 

I sprayed the non-wax side of the freezer paper with adhesive and stuck it to the printer paper.  I then cut the freezer paper to the exact size of the printer paper.  Again, the wax side is facing out - this will be the side on which the image is printed.

 Next, I stopped at Dollar Tree and picked up a towel - 

And then, the tough part - picking an image!  There are thousands of images on The Graphics Fairy website!  Yikes!  I finally chose this French letter image -

I set my printer to mirror image (actually, this might have been the hardest step for me.  My printer doesnt label it mirror image but t-shirt transfer.  I had to Google that to figure it out.  BTW, my copier is a Canon). I hand fed the paper and printed on the wax side.  I slightly wet the towel (I did not use too much water  - just slightly damp) and burnished the image using the back of a spoon - 

I did this lightly.  If you press too hard or for too long, the image will be blurry (yes, I did experiment a little with this).  And heres the finished project - 

I think it turned out so cute - and after wiping off the freezer paper, I can now reuse it!  So, I plan on doing more of these projects.  It was so easy and the possibilities are endless.  This method could be used to add a monogram, dress up a pillow, or customize curtains.  Ill share the rest of my projects from the Graphics Fairy challenge soon - the framed architectural image and the wine bottle dish soap dispenser (which I knocked off from Anthropologie).  

And Im excited to say that I have already begun to get more organized - I am sticking to my goals!  Yay!  I cleaned out a few kitchen cabinets yesterday -and it felt so good!  Im going to keep working on it and then Ill share what Ive done.  Ill even share some before and after pictures.  Everyone likes to see clean and organized cabinets, dont they?

Its quintessentially Tasmanian. Stunningly beautiful and dark at the same time. After seeing the first two episodes of The Kettering Incident at last nights world premiere that kicked off the Dark Mofo festival, Im hooked and cant wait to see the rest.

Mysterious signs bearing the letters TKI started appearing around the Huon Valley and the Channel during filming last year, directing cast and crew to the days location. The eight-part series was filmed entirely in Tasmania, and it shows. A snow-capped Sleeping Beauty looms outside the windows. The light is soft. Plovers screech in the distance at night. The grey besser bricks of Mountain River Hall. Wet dirt roads. Bright green moss and man ferns. Spectacular views. Forestry loggers versus the greenies. The Bruny Island Ferry. Utes. Lots of utes.

The full series will air on Foxtel later this year, and while we dont get Foxtel at home, Ill find a way to see it all one day. Most of all, Id love to get my hands on one of the snow globes on sale in the local Kettering store... if you missed last nights screening, youll have to wait to find out whats inside them.
