Building a storage shed
Just about every homeowner at one time or another has a problem with storage. Is your wife tired of you putting your tools in the hall closet and getting everything dirty. Putting your lawnmower and wheel barrow under the tree in the back yard could be a eye sore?
A friend had to replace his lawnmower this summer. He doesnt have a shed so he kept it outside with a bucket over the motor during the winter. Not a good idea but he didnt have a shed or garage to keep it in, I suggested he build a shed he said he just didnt have the skills needed to build one.
I told him that there are actually wood shed building kits that have every thing you need to do the job yourself. Some kits have the wood precut for you! All you need to do is put it together. His reply was to remind me of some Christmases in the past with those easy things that say some assembly required and they are anything but!
I said if he bought one I would help him put it together. He thought about it and then told me how his wife would be happy to look out the bathroom window and not see a rake and shovel handle in the window. A few days went by and he told me he had checked out the local home and garden shop but he picked one on line and it was being shipped to his house.
The kit had everything he needed and we had it up in just a couple of weekends. He tried to convince me to help him paint it but I drew the line on panting, if you do a project like this you need to understand all the kits come unfinished so you will have to paint it.
My friend didnt like to paint either so he paid a guy to do it for him, even doing that he saved several hundreds of dollars over a pre-built shed and said he actually enjoyed putting it together. I could tell it gave him a great sense of accomplishment and the shed is a welcome addition to his back yard.
