Welcome, and site news.
It is always a pleasure to give you all a warm welcome to this months edition of "On Shed".....
And before we go any further, perhaps a mention of the forthcoming Mallard75 event would not go amiss.
On 3 July, 1938, A4 4468 Mallard started to the north of Grantham and headed south along the LNER route. From milepost 100 the speed was measured at 87.5 mph. By milepost 93 it had reached 119mph and things were looking good. It was around the area of milepost, number 90 that the speed of 125 mph had been reached the record had been broken!
July 3rd, 2013 will be the 75th birthday of that record breaking run and www.steamtu.be would like to commemorate the event by running a competition.
"Mallard - The Quest for Speed"
Wed like you to make a documentary video of up to 15 minutes;. The competition is aimed at all you amateur railway videographers out there and is asking you to create a totally unique, filmed video in a documentary style. All entries must be totally filmed, edited, voiced over and finished by the entrant. The content must be totally unique footage filmed by the entrant. Documentaries found to be containing pirated content will be disqualified.
So, get filming and editing!
This month saw 60163 Tornado back on the mainline after the winter maintenance programme, and speaking of the mainline, congratulations are due to all at the Bluebell Railway for the completion of the East Grinstead extension.
On Shed has reports on "Flying Scotsman", "Hengist", "The Unknown Warrior", and the linked projects involving the Victorian Steam Locomotive Company and the Claud Hamilton Locomotive Group.
We are pleased to be able to show some of the excellent film clips in the Huntley Film Archive, and On Shed would like to thank Mr Robert Dewar for his kind courtesy in making this possible.

NFSA Film Australia
A Steam Train Passes(1974) is one of the most iconic of railway films.
The NFSA collection includes many other film clips showing railways in Australia through the years. We are grateful to Richard Carter (NFSA Film Australia Collection Archivist) for his kind consideration which makes it possible for us to see these historic films...
This film is entitled "The Rail Way"
Made by Film Australia 1979. Directed by Greg Reading. A wide-ranging look at Australian railways - from the city underground to the railway of the remote outback. We see the six locomotive coal giants of central Queensland and the picturesque Normanton-Croydon rail car, epic journeys of the transcontinental Indian Pacific and a half-day vintage steam train excursion. The film is introduced and narrated by Patsy Adam-Smith, well known for her many books on Australian railways.
