Welcome, and site news.
A warm welcome to all readers of "On Shed", the monthly review e-zine of "Steam Tube - The Home of Steam on the Net"
Thank you to all who uploaded their photographs and videos over the past month...there are now 27,101 images in the photographic library, and 5,465 videos!
The Mallard 75 and "The Great Gathering" event at the NRM York provided many photographic opportunities...and not easy to get a group photo of the 6 A4s without people getting in the way!!
This months edition of On Shed includes the regular features...but one item in particular will no doubt provide plenty of food for thought.........
The "Around the World in 80 Railways. No 37: Train of Freedom"
The Director Karina Correa kindly allowed "On Shed" to embed this thought-provoking film for the benefit of our readers. Watch...and reflect.....
And we are pleased to give an introduction to Helston Railway, which is endeavouring to re-open a section of the Helston branch line. More power to their arm!
So, now enjoy this months "On Shed"!

NFSA Film Australia
Steam Train Passes(1974) is one of the most iconic of railway films.
The NFSA collection includes many other film clips showing railways in Australia through the years. We are grateful to Richard Carter (NFSA Film Australia Collection Archivist) for his kind consideration which makes it possible for us to see these historic films...
The Tea and Sugar Train
Made by the Commonwealth Film Unit 1954. Once a week the Tea and Sugar Train leaves Port Augusta and heads west along the Nullarbor with all the supplies needed by the track maintenance workers and their families that live along the route. Everything from a needle to a radiogram from a broom to health services comes on the train they call the Tea and Sugar.

| Early repayment of Bearer Bonds! |
| Wednesday, 03 July 2013 | |
| Early repayment of the £500,000 4% unsecured bearer bonds 2012-2016 issued by the Trust during 2004 The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, the registered charity behind steam locomotive 60163 Tornado, is shortly to advise bond holders via Steam Railway and Heritage Railway magazines of its decision to repay the nominal value of all bonds on 31st December 2013. This will be done in accordance with the terms of the Prospectus issued in 2004 to help fund Tornados completion, especially the boiler purchase. Those persons who, as far as the Trust is aware, are the bond holders have been written to at their last known address informing them of the decision. Although the Trust has until 31st December 2016 to redeem the bonds, the Trust has accumulated sufficient funds to redeem all bonds on 31st December 2013. Mark Allatt, Chairman, The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, commented: "The Trustees have adopted a policy in recent years of ring fencing funds to provide for the repayment of the bonds but the recent receipt of a substantial legacy has enabled the repayment to be brought forward. On behalf of everyone involved with Tornado I would like to thank all of the bond holders for their support over the years and bringing Tornado onto the main line. We are proud in what we have all achieved together and are really pleased that so much enjoyment has been brought to so many supporters and friends." |
