A warm welcome to this August 2014 edition of "On Shed".
Our 1,453 members (a special welcome to new members!) now enjoy a photographic library of 29,633 images.... and 6,110 videos.
In addition, there are 310 blogs to enjoy....including blogs this month from John Gaydon and David Suter featuring the newly restored Garratt 6029 in Australia.


An increasing number of new and rebuilds are in progress, and "On Shed" endeavours to keep up with a few.....progress is evident in the P2 project, V499 and Hengist projects.... and in the LMS Patriot "The Unknown Warrior". 


The Konkan Railway in India features in "Around the World in 80 Railways" with some images of the infrastructure , by kind permission of Konkan Railway.


August 2014 marks the centenary of World War 1. The BBC is showing a series called "Railways at War", with Michael Portillo. Informed readers will know that Christian Wolmars book "Engines of War"(2012) showed how railway use as a military weapon
was developed, leading to longer.. and bloodier..conflicts. Steam Tube presents a
film of the author explaining the key points of his book with a slide presentation.
 
And in addition to the video and photo highlights walls, this edition is brought to an end with two excellent mini documentaries... one from Roni, on Czechoslovakian Railways, and another from Stephen Wolstenholme on the railways of Ecuador.

The PRCLT will be attending Cromford Steam Rally on August 2nd & 3rd. In addition to a promotional stall selling souvenirs and prize draw tickets, we’ll be providing an attraction for visitors by displaying one of our ex-Butlin’s 21-inch gauge locomotives.
