Welcome, and site news
A warm welcome to all to this December 2013 issue of "On Shed" - the monthly e-zine of "Steam Tube - The Home of Steam on the Net!"
As ever, it is with gratitude that we express appreciation for the high quality of steam images surfacing here from all over the world. JIANGLILY has uploaded some beautifully crafted images from China.......they are so outstanding that "On Shed" includes several for inclusion in this edition. Enjoy!!
The usual features are included in this edition too. "The Unknown Warrior" was the star of the recent Warley National Railway Show at the NEC Birmingham, and a brief interview with Andrew Laws of the Patriot Project is included in the New Build News.
Christian Wolmar gives his views on the unfolding UK HS2 project, Adrian Vaughan offers dark room prints of railway images, and the Australian new Build V499 project is inviting membership of its "Ground -Up Club".
News from Australia regarding the latest situation for the Zig Zag Railway can be found on their Facebook page HERE
And Iain McGeachin is hoping to continue on his 100 trains (plus!!) ride around the world, this time taking in the US and Canada (all things being equal!!) sometime in December.
And please take a look at our US partners RAIL 33...
RAIL 33: The New Rail Reality RAIL Magazines 33rd edition focuses on such vital topics as the cost of rail projects, high-speed passenger rail, rail at the ballot box and rails profitability. NFSA Film Australia
Steam Train Passes(1974) is one of the most iconic of railway films.
The NFSA collection includes many other film clips showing railways in Australia through the years. We are grateful to Richard Carter (NFSA Film Australia Collection Archivist) for his kind consideration which makes it possible for us to see these historic films...
Made by The National Film Board 1953. Directed by Joan Boundy. A junior school film in the Social Studies series, primarily designed to assist teachers to explain the tickets system. The film also describes the geography of the trains journey from Murray Bridge, on the Victoria-South Australian border, to Adelaide, the capital, of South Australia as Richard and his mother go to town, taking the train from their suburban station. The things that Richard sees on the journey make up this interesting and informative film.
